"Lufhereng" was derived from a Tshi'Venda word and Sotho words, 'Lufhera' and 'reng' respectively, were combined to a name that refers to a place where people come together with a united commitment.
Lufhereng is located directly to the West of Soweto, North of Protea Glen and to the South of Slovoville on the R558 Impala Road. Forming a natural western extension of Soweto. It is one of the last developing areas of Soweto. A project to break new ground and aimed at promoting home ownership and eradicating service delivery backlogs within the Gauteng Province.
There are a variety of schooling options including Lufhereng Primary School and Lufhereng secondary school within a proximity of 500 meters amongst others with more schools planned for that area.
There are also a number of churches within a kilometer.
Residents can easily access medical care 6km away from there is Leratong Hospital and a new hospital at Jabulani mall. Expansion plans for Lufhereng include more medical facilities and emergency services. Protea Glen Mall is about a kilometer from the area and Jabulani mall is 4 km from Lufhereng which makes it easily accessible for the residents.
For safety and security there is a police station about 3km from the area and an additional 2 police stations in Protea Glen. Facilities like schools, crèches, churches, are also planned for Lufhereng.
Working with the development's partners - the Gauteng departments of education, sports and recreation, housing, local government and health will make sure that this is one of Gauteng’s best integrated development the province has seen.
This is the development all Soweto and Gauteng residents were waiting for.
